Fairtrade Cotton Yarn
Introduction
Fairtrade is providing a fair price to the whole supply chain and ensuring that none of the persons/entities are exploited or underpaid. Fairtrade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect that seek greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to workers and securing the rights of underprivileged producers and workers - in the developing and underdeveloped countries. Fairtrade organizations (backed by consumers) are actively engaged in supporting producers in awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practices of conventional international trade.
History of Maral in Fairtrade
Maral pioneered this business line and established one of the first supply chains of this kind. We began in 2005 with M&S to launch one of their first collections in Fairtrade. Gradually, we have ventured into different product ranges with M&S and other brands.

Compact Yarn
Introduction
In compact spinning, the fibers are compacted aerodynamically just after the drafting. The fibers become more closely aligned and increasingly parallel within the compacting zone. This allows nearly all the fibers to contribute to the yarn structure under relatively equal tension.

Contamination Free Yarns
White and light colors are very sensitive, this makes it easy for any foreign particle present in the cotton fiber to appear prominently on the fabric. Specially, discerning customers have very stringent norms and to use conventional cotton yarn with contaminations is not solicited for the product profile.
In order to satisfy our quality conscious customers, we have not only improved our processes by using state-of-the art technology but have also focused a lot on sourcing of the right quality cotton. Apart from importing contamination free cotton from US and other countries, we have also worked with farmer groups and ginners to reduce contamination levels. We are also engaged in training and development of best practices during cotton picking and ginning.
On the technical side, we have installed machines that remove contamination at two different stages - pre-spinning and post spinning. |
